Bo Burch - Founder

Bo Burch grew up on a small farm near Lexington, VA and worked within a family construction business prior to entering and completing his undergraduate degree at James Madison University in Virginia. After graduating with honors within the College of Business at JMU, he also attended Michigan State University’s Labor and Industrial Relations School and is experienced at contract negotiations, the grievance procedure, mediation and the arbitration process.

He began his professional career with the MASCO Corporation. Later, he was recruited by International Paper, Coca Cola, Eaton and Corning Inc. to lead organizational transformations in highly competitive global markets. He specializes in sizing up and developing talent to meet the needs of the business plan. Bo has authored and developed technical and leadership assessment centers emphasizing key performance indicators, balanced scorecards that optimize and demonstrate the continuous improvement philosophy. He has also contributed to a number of articles on the subjects of compensation, rewards systems and effective leadership and organizational attributes.

In 2003, Bo founded Human Capital Solutions, Inc. www.humancs.com in Wilmington, NC. Bo resides in Wilmington with his wife Marian, their three children Allyson, Abigail and their son Palmer.

Charles Buckland

Charles is a Chartered Accountant (European CPA) with over 12 years experience with the ‘big four’ accounting firms. Charles has both a bachelors and masters degree in accounting, along with the UK tax qualification Association of Tax Technicians, providing Charles with extensive in depth international accounting expertise. Charles also has developed efficacious marketing and sales abilities having worked for a large banking group marketing a range of financial services and packages. He recently relocated from Cambridge in the UK to Wilmington, NC and currently manages several consulting projects ranging from general accounting to strategic planning and financial management.

Joanna Cartrette

Joanna is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt Process Improvement Specialist with six years of Specialty Chemicals and Polymers industrial experience.  While working for Honeywell International she served as a technical liaison between R&D facilities and manufacturing sites to facilitate process improvement and launch new products.  Also, as a chemist, Joanna served as an Analytical Lab Manager for a Clariant Corporation Specialty Chemicals site.  Her experience includes Total Quality Management, technical leadership and mentoring, ISO 9000 requirements, and Process Improvement Methodology.

Joanna, a native of Charleston, South Carolina, received her BS in Chemistry and BA in Fine Arts from the College of Charleston and her PhD in Analytical Chemistry from the University of South Carolina.  She has co-authored various research publications and has presented her work at international conferences in the US and Europe.

Betsey DeVane

Betsey DeVane brings with her a variety of skills and experiences to the Human Capital Solutions team. She has been in sales and sales management for nearly thirty years, beginning her sales career as an Executive Recruiter in South Carolina. She successfully moved through a variety of industries, focusing on developing sales tracking systems and training for sales people. She was the Director of Physician Relations for a large teaching hospital tasked with keeping a referral network of 1100 doctors functioning efficiently in a highly competitive environment. Betsey studied Art at the University of South Carolina, has lived and worked in Canada and Germany, and still maintains a substantial business network around the world. Other early experience included working as a portrait artist, a licensed private investigator and as a correctional counselor.

Karen Foster

Karen is a Senior Consultant and Executive Recruiter for HCS with over 23 years of industry experience in lean manufacturing, new technology innovation and development, and organizational efficiency. Karen’s expertise also includes safety, health and environmental regulatory compliance, Total Quality Management, Supply Chain and ISO 9000 requirements. Karen holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Susan Herrmann

Susan is a professionally trained performance coach, organization specialist, and lifelong student of personal and organizational learning and change. Susan’s coaching and consulting experience has been focused in areas of personal and professional development, performance effectiveness, organization assessment and strategic business development. She and her clients explore ways to maximize personal and professional performance and create a new path for the future. Susan has extensive experience with small and large organizations to include Honeywell Technology Solutions, Lockheed Martin, and the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. Susan has an M.S. in Organizational Development from Johns Hopkins University and a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Maryland.

Jill Hohwald

Jill hails from upstate New York and graduated Cum Laude from the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She joined the HCS team over a year ago as a Consultant and Executive Recruiter. With a background in Production and Operations Management, she is concentrating on establishing high quality systems and standard operating procedures for some of Southeastern North Carolina’s fastest growing companies. Jill also works a vast array of global Executive searches across multiple industries.

Allison Hunt

Allison was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but moved to sunny Florida to attend Pensacola Christian College.  She graduated Suma Cum Laude with a BS in Elementary Education which prepared her to be successful in a variety of areas including teaching, writing, design, and office administration.  Allison is now putting those skills to work managing many office tasks and recruiting.

Lisa Mesnard

Lisa has over 15 years of experience bringing a combined background as a human capital consultant and human resources practitioner. Lisa focuses on helping clients achieve business results through the development and measurable implementation of people strategies and systems. Her areas of expertise include performance management, leadership development, talent alignment, retention, and compensation. Industries Lisa has worked with include Chemicals and Specialty Chemicals, Health Care, Pharmaceutical, Architectural/Engineering and Medical Technologies. Lisa received her MBA from the University of Michigan and Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Toledo.

Karen Patrick

Karen has been selling real estate for 7 years, originally in the Minneapolis, MN area and most recently here in Wilmington. She has extensive experience working with all types of residential real estate clients from first time home buyers to luxury home buyers and sellers.  After graduating with a BA in Fashion Merchandising, Karen worked in the retail industry for twenty years.  She was a merchandiser and merchandise buyer who travelled and negotiated for the best products and pricing.  Wanting to start her own business, she obtained her Minnesota Real Estate License in 2001.  Karen’s good communication and computer skills make her a welcome addition as a recruiter and sourcer at Human Capital Solutions.

Christy Adams-Shannon

Christy is a Sr. Consultant bringing over 20 years of business experience ranging from sales and advertising, market assessment, revenue management, and business development. She concentrates her energy and passion to the process of partnering with her clients to identify key areas for improvement, focusing on advancing the existing environment toward its desired future state. Her experience gives her a valuable perspective for working with CEO’s teams, team leaders, or new managers. Christy worked for the SAS Institute, gaining experience in a fast-growing, product and customer focused environment. From there she was recruited by Marriott International in Washington, DC, where she held various management positions for over 12 years. She built and launched new brands and managed corporate marketing and communications. As a Senior Director at Marriott Headquarters, she leveraged her management and leadership skills to motivate people to achieve top performance.

Christy has lived and worked in Germany as an Executive Coach and Consultant. After relocating to Wilmington, Christy graduated with honors from the MBA program at UNCW. Her undergraduate degree is a B.S. in Business Management from N.C. State University. Christy understands the demands of balancing work and family along with fiscal responsibilities, customer satisfaction, and retaining the best employees.
